Notes
The race went as well as I could have hoped! After only a few minutes of light jogging, the race started. I immediately fell-in with the second pack (only 10m behind the first pack) The lead group stuck together until about mile 1 at which point people started to fall back. I kept passing people slowly and steadily. Most people gave a fight but they eventually relinquished after I pushed their pace a little. Soon I found myself in second place and coming up on the first place guy. He was setting a good pace but the hills were killing him which told me he must have been tired. On the final large uphill I could keep up with him by walking the steep parts (which I did), then at the top of the hill I passed him at a nice fast clip to try and kick him when he was down.
For the last mile of the race I basically ran a little bit dangerously trying to keep hold of my lead. I was definitely tired and another uphill would have killed me. At the very end I got lost and the 2nd place guy caught up to me, told me which direction to go, and graciously let me win. Overall good race despite the slow time. Seeing as how this is my first speedwork in many moons I hope to progress quickly to faster paces in the future!
