Not sure what to say. Training cycle was spot on. Pre-race spot on!
First half of the race -- executed exactly like I wanted. Only explanation is the heat/humidity.
Did my best to take in fluids (obviously if I had to stop). Had 8 ounces in my bottles (half water and half powerade) at 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23 and 24. I think that this might have actually been too much fluid? Had a little bit of rot gut? Not sure. Also, may have waited a bit longer to take my first GU than I should? I took one just before the start and then next at mile 9. Probably should have been at 6 or 7? Not going to worry about that though.
Once I came out of the porta potty, I just couldn't get back on rhythm. The string on my shorts had gotten knotted, but they were loose. So, because of the heat/humidity -- they were falling down. Had to continually pull them up to keep from mooning the crowd. Finally, once I realized that it wasn't my day, I said screw it and walked long enough to get the knot undone. Then I just ran what I could to the end.
Disappointed, but I know that I wilt in these conditions. Need cool weather to run my best...
Time to recover and get back after my goals for the year!!!
