What an interesting race. This was the first ever Vulcan Materials Quarry run held in Chicago. They've done some in other states around the country, but this was a first for Chicago...and I have to say they had the logistics and support stuff down. Great hosts.

This was a 5k race held in a quarry. You run 1.5 miles to the bottom, and back up another 1.5 to the top. Needless to say, the second half is absolutely brutal. 1.5 miles of an incline almost like the Arboretum.

The Saban family all decided to join the race which was really neat.

All in all, this was a pretty unique event, and allowed the family to do something together for a good cause.

Need those splits

My first mile was somewhere around 6 flat. We're talking a straight downhill.

I rode it fast with the understanding and intention that I knew I wasn't going to do well on the upside.

Somewhere around 6:0x, 8:3x, 9:3x

It was a 3.2 mile race, but they only had a split at the 1mi.

I felt OK because there was a kid who ran next to me who competed in NXR who was stride for stride.

We walked together in the 3rd mile for a 30 second reset.

I finished 10th overall. 1st in age group
