Notes

Open mile - Haverford University. I was in the slow heat, but I ran pretty well in my heat. Talked a little bit with an Upper Dublin runner right next to me before the race and he was surprised by my mile PR of 4:59 (he said that was a lot faster than how he runs), which made me feel pretty confident.

That confidence allowed me to take the first lap out at a pretty good pace (I was in first for the runners who could cut in right away). Over the next lap or so I got passed so that I was probably in 7-10th. Worked my way up as the race went on (when I heard my first 1/4 split, I knew it was too slow + the pace felt a little slow anyway), which really helped me out. Ends up the lead back began to split up, so it helped not to be too far back when it did that. I ended up working my way to about 4th, by which point the lead runners truly pulled away from me, which was disappointing, but I'm still fine with how I ran.

I wasn't expecting to do all that well, so I was pleasantly surprised that I held my own. Yesterday (premeet) I had to get up at 5:30 AM (although I got to sleep 30 min early because of that), and ran my premeet then. After school I also had a ski trip, so I was a little worried the food from there + having my legs be a bit more worn out + not getting that great sleep the night of the meet (slept 10-12ish on the bus, 12:30-5:50 at my house, and then 7:00-8:00 on the bus to the meet) would really wear me out. Luckily it didn't seem to adversely affect me much, and I also got to enjoy myself on the ski trip as well. Win-win!

Lifting seems to be helping - my arms tiring out during a race aren't a concern anymore. Today I felt my legs getting tired first. I'll try to do a little extra leg stuff over the next week (not that my legs are really lacking, but I might as well continue to concentrate on improving the weakest link in my last race).
