Notes
PR! Earlier best time was 10:08, so this was pretty big.
I was pretty apprehensive about this race. Last year, my 3K PR was at the very end of the year, and I felt that it was my best race of the year. Also, since we had only been doing tempo runs, I wasn't sure how long I would be able to keep up a 80sec/400m pace (our tempo paces were between 90-95sec/400m).
Got a decent start. I felt that it was a bit slow back where I was, but I noticed that the huge front group started to pull away sometime within the first 2 laps. I made sure that I stayed with them and kept contact. For the rest of the race I was always trying to move up, or keep contact.
Sat behind a guy from Abington for a while, but in the second half of the race I decided to take a bit of a risk and pass him. Worked out well, he never became a concern for the rest of the race.
Near the last 2-4 laps I was pretty much running by myself, but still trying to work up to other people. The last lap I had a good kick, and passed a guy in a red and white uniform, but as it ends up he still had another lap to go (helped me finish strong, but it was disappointing that I couldn't steal his place away).
Definitely a confidence boost hearing that my 1st mile split was 5:11. I want to try to break 5 in the open mile now.
