Notes

1500m at La Crosse Last Chance

Had to work at 6 am today and then drive down after my last client to LAX. Got in just after 3, and then found out everything was moved up about 15 minutes. My Subway sub was still very much still in my stomach and not very digested, like I needed more things to worry about before this race. Really had no idea what I would run for a time today, but I was hoping the adrenaline would kick in and allow me to run with full strength.

The heat was absolutely stacked, so I was very excited to run. Felt pretty bad doing strides, I just didn't feel fast on any of my strides. I started right in the middle of the crowd so I knew I was going to have to get out and fight for a good spot. My plan was to get to the rail as quickly as I could and hang out there until people started falling off and then move up.

I did a pretty good job of getting to the rail, and I was in last place for a good 700m probably. There was so many guys getting tripped and stumbling, so my stride was constantly getting chopped. Then one guy pulled a Matt Scott/Grant Fischer and stepped on the rail. I moved up in his spot before he could jump back on the track. I think I came through 1100 in about 2:49 or 2:50 so I think I closed in a 60 or 61 for my last lap. I got to 200m left and I thought my legs were just going to shut down, it was a strugglefest to get to the finish line. I kept looking at the clock as I got closer and closer to the line, I should have just put my head down and pushed as hard as I could. I probably would have been 3:50 low if I just did that.

Overall I was really happy with my race. Running a PR with my calves feeling the way they did makes me think I could have ran 3:48-3:49 if I was 100%. It was a great time running on the La Crosse track again, I absolutely love that track. So many great memories (and some not so great from high school). I definitely want to make it down for this race next year as well, I need to get below that 3:50 barrier.

3:50.96= 4:09.4 mile (according to USTFCCCA conversions)
