About me: I'm a fun person, love life, like to tip a glass once in awhile (less these days), appreciate the views when I run (scenery and the two legged ones), take time to stop and smell the flowers (not when running) .
2009 was a great year running with numerous PRs. 2010 began a downslide for me with numerous injuries and a lot of just not feeling good which continued through 2011.
2012 was a terrible year and medical issues pretty much prevented me from running at all. Despite DRs advise, I ran several days a week, very poor runs and very short, with my longest run of the year finally reaching 4 ½ miles.
2013 started out pretty much the same way, but I continued running and a few months ago suddenly started feeling improvement and strength back and have been rebounding tremendously.
Although many people think I’m crazy, I’m now training for a Half Marathon on Sept 15th. It’ll be my first race in 4 years and my first race as a 60 year old. My biggest supporter is my youngest son |
Why do I run: I used to say: “The exercise, the scenery, the challenge, the peace and solitude and of course the people. Runners are just great people.”
Now I have to add “Because I CAN”. I refuse to give up!

Why I started running: I started running at age 50 to surprise my youngest son by running a road race with him before he went back to college. I secretly trained for about 6 weeks to complete 5K and he didn’t even know I was running until he completed the race and my wife told him.
I found so much enjoyment in the running, that I have continued it. Along the way, I have met some great people and found out that runners are an unusual breed and you have to be a runner to really understand why we put ourselves through this.
