SMU Outdoor

Notes

RPE 8+. warm up 300 2x400 build pull on 6:30. 3x300 swim at 1:45. 3x200 pull with 10secs rest. 4x100 hard close to 1:30pace. After 2nd 100 I was feeling like I was losing technique quickly. So after the 3rd 100 I merely did a recovery instead of hard. I was asked if I knew that the last 100 was hard. And I thought to myself sometimes it takes more discipline to back off and swim my own effort than it is to push it too hard. So that made me feel good that I swim smart.

Found out that long course venues, ie SMU outdoor 50m, times will be longer when compared to the exact same distance on a short course venue(25m) This explains why my TT at smu(50m) was 25-30 secs slower than at Baylor(25m). The masters coaches actually change their intervals on each pool. For example, When doing 500 swim at SMU the coaches might say do them on 1:45. Whereas at Baylor, the coaches would ask the same ability group to swim 500 at a 1:40 pace. The advantage of kicking off the wall more times at Baylor(short course venues) is an advantage to quicker times. Although not validated, one masters coach even mentioned that the smu outdoor pool may be slightly longer than 50m. Although, this coach was quick to indicate that it had not been validated...This helps explain the difference in my TT's between the 2 venues. Another example as to why it is helpful to attempt to do your TT workouts at the same location same temp, same conditions everytime.
