I struggled today...I purposely set lower expectations today. In the recent past I have completed 20min tempo's on a 6:30 pace. Since I have felt I have been struggling slightly on the run I decided to do mile repeats with a goal of 6:45 miles. Felt ok on the first mile and hit my goal of 6:44 pace. But after that I faded and felt like I had to work very hard to attempt to maintain my goal pace of 6:45. There was a slight head wind in one direction at the track this a.m. Nevertheless, I just didnt have it. I have slowly gotten slower at basically the same workouts on Tuesday. I have had a minor set back last week to my left thigh. But I was able to stretch it out throughout the week. Add to that that I took 5 days off from running I was able to recover. After 5 days of no running I should not have lost this much of speed, but I have. Perhaps it was a combination of last weeks recovery and the previous weeks total mileage. I have only put in less than 30 miles over the past 2 weeks. Perhaps I need to get back to some aerobic runs and re-establish my foundation.

I do not expect the same results as last year. But I do expect to run 7:30's off the bike at the Austin Tri this weekend. I can still ride hard even though I am not in the best shape as long as I begin my transition from bike to run about .5 miles from T2. I feel I am currently at about 80% fitness compared to this time last year.
