10 easy over rolling hills
Arghh. So I made the same mistake today that I made Tuesday. I did a route that started downhill which got me rolling too early and then it was hard to slow it down.
I will leave the map public so the hilliness of the route can be seen. I basically ran down West End to 12th, over to Division, up 17th, 12 S to Clifton to Belmont, 21st to Fairfax and back down Natchez Trace/Blakemore to home. I was thinking that route would give me plenty of hills, but running West End to 12th is definitely net downhill. Then the next 2 miles are net uphill.
I was a bit frustrated to not have slowed it down. I genuinely didn't want to get going that quickly and I don't want to sabotage my training by taking days that are supposed to be easy too hard. It's easier to do right now since I don't have a lot of tough workouts in my legs, but I need to get more disciplined. Next time I will do a route that doesn't start downhill.
Otherwise the run felt good. One exciting development is I'm not having near the hip tightness/soreness that has plagued me for basically months. Over the last several months, whenever I stretch my hip, I feel a lot of pull/resistance and soreness. This morning I realized it was a ton better-it felt like stretching the other hip. I'm really pleased with that.
Felt some soreness in my left calf. I tend to have a bit more calf soreness with the Newtons. I hope it's not due to me running with poor form in the shoes.
