Notes

Not sure how I feel about this race and what to take from it. In the end I cant be disappointed but I expected more from myself.

The day started off fairly well, my legs felt fresh, maybe to well. Stomach was a little upset, but seemed to be fine just before the race. The elite start was awesome and I look forward to it next year, I did start a little faster than what I planned but it was close to the pace I wanted.

At 5 in I was starting to fade back from the small pack of runners, but I had all the confidence I would find another pack or reel them back in. Neither of which happened I spent the rest of the day working to catch a guy who also dropped from the pack but remained 10 - 15 meter up on me, with every surge I would catch him but never for very long. I did have two or three other runners who passed me and I was able to run with them for a short time.

It wasn't until mile 9 that I finally passed the guy I had been behind and worked with one other guy through mile 12 before he began pulling away on the final mile.

I had no big issues during the race, breathing felt a little off from time to time and my stomach seemed fine until shortly after the race. I guess it just wasn't my day, running with myself or one other runner for well over 8 miles of the race just made it even more difficult. With every slower mile I tried to pick up the pace but just didn't seem to be able to. In all the other half marathons and the full I have always had the surges, but they seemed few and far between today.

Hopefully I can build from this race, and have some great races later this spring and early summer before, marathon training. I do feel the best I have ever felt after a half, no soreness just fatigue. Recovery will be much shorter from this race.
