Hadn't run fast in a while, so I decided I'd make up a mini-workout: 5 miles with 3 x 90 seconds hard with 90 seconds rest. Just a few tiny repeats to remind my legs of turnover. I neglected to remind my body that it'd be over a week since anything faster than 8:30/mile, and I probably shouldn't try for 90 seconds at sub-6 pace. First repeat, not horrible. Second repeat, off pace and starting to hurt a little near the end. Third repeat, further off pace and feeling like my gut was going to jump right out of my skin. Thankfully, it didn't. Onward...
