Tough race. Experienced quad, hamstring, and groin tightness/soreness like never before. My legs never became tired, they just started to really hurt and turn into rocks. I was on top of my nutrition every step of the way. I cut my losses at 70km in order to salvage my legs. There wasn't a point in "running" 15 min/mile the last 18 miles just to finish a road 100k. I am in the fastest shape of my life and the roads are where I excel. It was a very disappointing conclusion to the race that I have been focusing on for 4 months.

Looking back at my running log at my other successful marathons and ultras, I have traditionally used a two week taper. I used a three week taper for this race as I thought it would give my legs that extra edge. For the remaining part of 2013, I refuse to put all of my focus on one race, as it just leads to major disappointment. I am going to attempt to do one ultra or regular marathon every month through October or November to use my racing as training this year.

I will attempt the 100k again and will hopefully have figured out this new problem.
