My plan was to go out at 6:20/mile for the first half or so, and then open it up for the second half to test out my fitness. I have just been struggling with holding 6:00min/mile pace during my workouts, so I was pretty concerned with blowing up part way through the race. This was my first race testing out the Vaporfly 4% and the Maurten gels. Both exceeded expectations. I kept having to battle my own mind in the first few miles; my head kept wanting to write the story of the race before it was even over. I did not have a lot of confidence in my fitness. However, all systems worked well; hamstrings were super tight after I finished. Took one gel about 15min before the race started and another at mile 6. Felt great to have my body respond and be able to push the pace the last 6 miles.
