Great race. everyone was really nice, good after food, efficient, small group. very enjoyable.
Didn't know what my speed ability would be since I haven't trained speed since mid December. I picked a pace (8:20) below my current PR just to see if I could do it. Went out really strong and 8:20 felt easy. Continued that way until about 1.5 mile and I started to feel it. There were 2 minor hills at 1.75 that I just had to walk around. lungs were burning, hard to breath, legs were dying. I could have pushed through it but it would have been at the expense of tomorrows 12 miler and injuring myself so I decided to let my pack go and pull off the pace some and recover. The last mile was a struggle but I still got my kick in at the end. I'm a little disappointed, but not that bad. I didn't know what I could handle and now I know. If I had it to do again, I might have pulled back on the first mile and pushed harder at the end but oh well. 2nd in age group and 11 overall women. Not a bad day at the races.
