Planned a 6 mile progression starting at 7:00 and dropping 10-15 seconds per mile. Felt really good to start out with and my warmup mile was already a 7:10. Ran by feel and only looked at my GPS on the mile splits; gauged my pace via effort during the run. The first two miles felt super easy and were quite fast. The pace felt easy and comfortable. The third mile was a little more strenuous, but not bad. Then I tried to actually shift into a higher gear for the last three miles,and that is when I started to feel crappy. Once I got below 6:15 pace, my form felt awkward and stiff. Ran 6:06 for the 4th mile, and tried to run at or around 6:00 for the fifth, but only mustered another 6:06. I don't think I could have gone any faster, so I threw in the towel and jogged back home. Even after that, I was still running pretty quick on my cooldown. Obviously I'm in decent shape, but two weeks with no workout put some rust in my legs.
