About me: I am 27 years old and about 70 pounds overweight. I used to run a lot (for my own standards) and was pretty fast. I kept to shorter distances but would run multiple times a day.
I always wanted to run a marathon by the time I was 22. When I do finish my first marathon (Vegas 2010, baby!), I will be 8 years behind schedule, but at least I will be doing it!
I'm not looking for any killer times during runs, I just want to see improvements in myself. I am already seeing my clothes fit differently, and I have a better attitude about myself.
Running can do so much for people, I'm just glad I'm getting back to letting it work it's wonders on me again.
:)
I am also running the Ragnar Relay race this October in Las Vegas. You can find info at ragnarrelay.com |
Why do I run: I be active. I lose weight. To feel better about myself. To have time to myself. To think. To not think. To push myself.
Because, deep down below all the hate I have for getting off of my lazy ass, I really really do love to run. |
Why I started running: I always hated the forced running in school, so I avoided it at all costs. That, coupled with a leg injury at age 11, helped me stay a "chubby" kid. As a junior in high school, I had grown tired of the fat jokes and took things a little more seriously. I made it a point to do better than the seniors in PE who got special treatment. I then went into Drum & Bugle Corps and lost more weight. After that, I decided to try and keep it off. It worked for a while. I ran 2 miles 3 x's a day for 6 days a week. I did this for about 9 months before a back injury took me out of an active lifestyle. I slowly became lazy and quickly became fat again. But I was in denial for SO long.
So, now that I have kicked denial to the curb, I am back with a vengeance! |
