From the dark, foggy 7am start to the festive finish, I had a great 50k experience. Loved the friendly feel among Ultra Runners, although I am not sure I will fully jump on their endurance-event bandwagon. When the 10k runners showed up (many in costumes) I felt a fresh dose of adrenaline and joy...lots of beautiful friends in the mix (Amy W, Laurie B, Nancy, Anne W, Jan V, Ralph B, Kathy G). Also appreciated the incredible generosity of friends who volunteered for many hours of the event, ran a bit with me & celebrated the happy finish (Daphne/Kristen!) I was grateful (and a bit suspicious) that Aid Stations on this course were stocked with Ibuprofen and salt tablets. My watch read 3:40 at the 26.2 mark. My pace was pretty steady for the first 40k; slowed a lot on the final 3-5 miles. I feel great about my ave pace and for completing my longest run ever. I was happy & surprised to finish second among the women. :) official results (field size, etc) pending.
