Well, I can't be unhappy with this race. It was really solid effort for 11 miles. But as I hit 11, the 1:40 pace group pulled away and I just had nothing left in my legs. Mile 12 was the worst. It took forever and Aileen and Bob passed along with tons of others. But it still was my fastest half since 2007 and I just need to keep chipping away at that.
My shoe became untied at mile 8 and I never stopped to fix them. A pain, but not a major deal.
The first mile felt really easy and I ran with Jamin for the first two. .It started sprinkling shortly after, but I just tried to stay relaxed and on pace at 7:37. Once we got to Loose Park it really started raining hard and puddles began forming. Those miles there were tough. The whole course had challenging rolling hills that seemingly wore my legs down. Once we left Loose, the 1:40 pace group caught me and I hung with them for a few miles. I always find these groups so stressful, but I seemed comfortable with them. Once we hit 11 it was all over.
By the end, I was soaked and oold. The tin coverups were a life savor. They had smoothies! But the finish was far from my car and that walk was torture.
