Notes

I decided to do a hard 5k time trial on the track. It was horrendously windy out, literally the windiest weather I have ever run in. It seemed to be blowing in all directions, but I was definitely running into it on the home stretch. At some points it felt like I was literally slowing to a walk. Regardless of that fact, I ran a killer time. I'm not sure where I pulled this one from, but I destroyed my expectations. I ran a 5:43 for the first 4 laps, and then 5:38 each for the next two miles, followed by a 39 second 200.

Crossing the line, my mouth was all sticky, my legs were heavy, and I was gasping for air. I must say, I've missed that. I was worried that I'd forgotten how to put the hammer down and run so hard it hurts. I can't believe how close to my high school PR I came today, and all I have to say about it is that sometime during 2009 I will be forging new territory and running deep into the 16s for the 5k. There's no maybe involved in that statement.

As for the week, it was less than stellar but I think this time trial made up for it. I took too long to recover from that 18 miler and I think I learned my lesson. Next week it will be mostly easy with a good 20 miler on Sunday.
