Notes

Newport Marathon

Poor nights sleep the night before, 6 hours of interrupted dozing. felt quite tired when I got up. bagel for breakfast with Gatorade and water. Brief 6 minute warm up jog at 10minute pace, some stretching, another 4 minute jog up to race pace with about 7 minutes to go until start. Start of the race, was still unsure of desired goal pace, so I figured I would meet in the middle from recent race times and go for 3:25 to allow for some fade. I know I'm not in much better shape aerobically so this was a good goal, and a stretch considering the lack of sleep.

Picked up two people who wanted me to pace them (said I looked like I knew what I was doing) and since I was shooting for 3:25 it was going to work for them. Kelly & Jim-Bob.

Afterthoughts:

I am in better shape than how the race unfolded. Could have done a better job with lead-up nutrition to race day including carb loading and hydration. The most significant factor I feel was likely back to back nights of 6 hours sleep leading into race day which did not help. This training cycle included about 4-5 weeks of getting back into shape from being off for 3 months, so during the early phase with more tempo runs, these were not going to have the quality they should have. Starting the training plan in proper shape would have yielded better results from these workouts.
