Course was about .04 short. So I would say my 8k time was around 27:35ish. Ran with an alumni from Simpson. He beat me by 2 seconds, I was kind of disappointed, but my goal was to get under 28 minutes which I did. At the start of the race I just wanted to be on pace nothing to fast or slow. There were these two guys, one who I graduated with, and the other a WD alumni. I knew I was in better shape then both of them, but they lead the race for the first mile. One guy dropped off after that, my old teammate hung on until about a 1.5 miles in. Then it was just me and the Simpson guy the rest of the race. We were pretty even with about 2 miles left. That's when he started to pick it up and I faltered just a bit. With less then a mile left I threw in a huge surge blowing by him, I thought I had beaten him right there. With about a quarter mile left he caught me and had about a 4 second gap. Then I just gave everything I had left the last 100 meters or so. I almost had him. I have a feeling if the course had been an actual 8k I would've caught him. I am not devastated with a runner up finish. This week and last week is getting me so excited for the fall. 15 DAYS UNTIL WE MOVE IN!
