Meet Location: Wartburg College

Welp conference came and went just like that! On a team level there is nothing to hang our heads about, but also no reason to be super excited about our performance. Proud of everyone that raced today, and hope everyone had a blast racing this year. Looking forward to the next couple of weeks and see what we can do on the regional and national level. On a personal level I had one heck of a day! I set a personal record by 51 seconds. Finished 7th on the team and 19th overall. Even though I had a hug pr, I still feel as if there is more in the tank. I guess that's just the competitor in me always wanting to be better and faster. I went through the mile at 5:09 which sounded fast, but it was okay because I felt smooth and wasn't working overly hard to run that fast. The rest of my race went as I planned. I sat on Lora's 6 man and he took me through the first 5k. Right before 5k came I remembered at practice 2 weeks ago when I tried to go out with the front for the hard 3k, and a threw down a surge. I ended up running away from the wind breaker (aka Loras) and catching up to Luther's pack. Apparently I cut someone off and he had to push me to get me out of his way. His mistake, he ended up pushing me forward which gave me some momentum to throw in another surge. I flew by Thkeeter (WOLAK). 3k to 2k went by in the blink of an eye. I rounded the houses by the 2k mark and saw Mitch, Ali, and Aaron and set my target on them. I wanted to be up in that pack. I charged up the hill and recharged my legs going down after the houses. I ran over the stream and alls I could think of was running with my boys. I wasn't even thinking of settling. And just to measure that Chapman was right before the tracks and he said, "I don't care if they are your teammate or not, you have to beat one of them!" I nodded my head in recognition, and as I rounded the corner in what I thought was my kick. I got about 200 out and Preston Kauder from Loras was coming up on my shoulder, and said F it and just went as hard as I could to the finish. Just barely edging Mitch, I was just glad to see the results and see that Kauder didn't even beat Mitch! He died right after I matched him!

One thing I wish I would have done better was run with the pack longer. I felt so controlled going through 5k, but I know now that I can run with that pack from the gun. I finished strong, but I want to be up there with the entire time talking with my teammates. I was racing against Loras, and not racing with Wartburg. I was in no man's land way to much, and that easily could have been avoided.

On to the next one!

I'm so incredibly proud of you Joe. This is fantastic. Your hard work is paying off. You can do anything you put your mind too. This is the exact time I ran my Freshman year. You're gonna do huge things. But the season isn't over yet. Keep it up man. Really wish I had 4 years to run with you.
