Notes

To start the race we got out hard just like any other day. I was surprised to see that Wash U didn't come into sight until the first downhill over by the houses. The first 4k was super chill, almost easy. After that Sam and I picked it up a little bit to string out the field. No one came with. We dropped the field. I kinda figured at least one or two would've came with, but no one did. Up until that point we just let the guys from Drake take the conditions head and we just kind of sat on them and relaxed. At one point I wanted to speed it up but Sam was kinda like this is good right here not yet. And at one point Sam wanted to go but I also said not quite yet. And then pretty much at the same time we sped up. We crossed the tracks and no one was in sight. I would like to say that is whole lot more incentive to grit my teeth and finish hard when there is a color than orange ahead of me. I promise you guys that I will have a nasty finish, as will everyone, at Oshkosh and the rest of the season.

Team:

Jay brought to my attention that maybe we still don't believe how truly good we are. Jay told me that he looked around at the start and didn't see anyone but us, he even saw Wash U back off a little. This made the thought of "did we get out too hard, is this dumb of us?" It wasn't. We are one of the BEST teams in the NATION. When we get out in front of everyone, we need to know that we belong and our ranking is not, our goals are not absurd, that we are the BEST in the field. If you can't see that, open your eyes, WE ARE.

I also want to add a quick shoutout to Morgan. The dude almost took the lead by the houses the first time around. I like that Morgan didn't give a rip that Drake was there, that he was ahead of Matteucci (a multiple time all-american and top ten runner at cross nat last year), Joe Stover (a national qualifier in the steeple), Sam Pinkowski (I think you know how good he is ;) or anyone else in the field. He just ran up there because he was confident and knows that a runner on the best team in the nation belongs in the lead pack.

Disclaimer: Idk who else was right there with us, I just saw Morgan. So whoever else was right there in the front pack as well, awesome. It takes a village.

Great day today fellows. We came in with the goal, nay the expectation, of beating Wash U and own our course. We did just that, on to the next one.
