Notes
Before hand coaches want me to go out in 15:10... then the weather was super nice so he gave me his blessing to go out in 15 flat.... but then the race started I went out in a 66 and felt great. Kept clicking off the ks like nobody's business. Earlier on it was basically just coach and I exchanging positive remarks to each other each lap. I nodded my head every 800 or so just to let him know I knew what I was doing. After the 5k I gave him a thumbs up because I was in a very good place physically and mentally. I just started to pick it up as best as I could. The only K I ran above 3 minutes was the ninth one and it was 3:01. Wish that one was a little quicker, but I still closed in a 2:54. I just new that when I 6k that there was a reason I have been such an advocate for higher mileage and higher volume workouts. I don't do those long tempos for show, there is a purpose and a lot of intentionality. And a lot of the purpose is so that when I get 6/7/8k in this race, I don't just try to hold onto my pace but so that I can still be picking it up when it gets hard. I know that given the right race I can go so much faster. This was a really good step in the right direction and now when people talk about who is going to win a national title, I'm in that conversation.
Also, this was fantastic day not only for me but the rest of the 10k squad as well. Sophomore year Morgan and I were the only 2 to break 32, we had a handful guys run mid 31s today. Great day to be a Knight!
