easy miles on the trails w/ scott and alex.

got out of the woburn just after 1:00. drove over to mike's and found out he wouldn't be ready for at least another hour... made the irrational call to drive up solo, just too itchy to wait for mike and marc (they would eventually make it up to the mountain around 6:00, only an hour or so after me). i did make pretty good time heading north. slow for a few miles on 95, but mostly free sailing for the rest of 95 and much of route 16, then crawling for 20-30 minutes heading into conway (the last mile...). stopped at the "brew through" outside jackson proper. picked up a four-pack each of moat mountain iron mike's and east intervale ipa, plus a six of tuckerman's pale ale. good stuff for the campfire and the river post-race.

met ard at the registration tent when i pulled in around 5:00. picked up my number (#10!), stretched out a bit and waited for scott and alex to arrive. put in an easy 20 minutes on the trails just to loosen up after the long drive. felt infinitely better after running.

drove the final 10-15 minutes up to gorham, and stopped at subway for dinner. we ended up eating there, before heading over to the campsite at moosebrook. pat had already set up his tent, firewood and the campfire on his drive down from pittsburg. had the tent up rather quickly with alex and scott's assistance, then settled down by the campfire with one responsible beer and a couple hours of good conversation before turning in around 10 o'clock. we kept thinking steve would show up late... he never did...
