9 miles with Sarah K. Ran down by the lake and saw some epic waves. Feared for my life for a brief moment. Pretty neat. Ran around and dropped her off at Atomix for coffee. Picked up Chad at 9.4 after changing a few clothing items, drinking some water, and eating one caffeinated gu. Headed out for the rest of the run and before we could even get started up again witnessed a small kid get clipped by a car turning from Leavitt onto Augusta. Mother was understandably freaking out. We had the walk signal and the guy was turning, heard a tiny thump sound just as the mom grabbed him (and probably saved his life. fuck) but the kid didn't cry and was soon walking around. Maybe his foot hit the car as his mom was lifting him? Who knows. Called 911 anyway and waited around with the mom and kid until things were figured out. Carried on to Logan Square and stopped off at the farmer's market. Picked up some oats and farro. Through Palmer Square and Humboldt to home. Still had 1.4 miles to go so dropped off Chad and picked up the dog for a little cruise around the neighborhood. Wow, lots of lollygagging around on this run but some of it obviously couldn't be helped. Maybe not the most ideal of 17 milers but it's in the books and done.
