2018 Charlotte 1/2 Marathon, Sat@0730,$FREE(Novant Freebie)
Temp @ 43F at 730 am (wind chill 40 range), temp at race end @ 50 F; 6-8 mph wind no issue. Set alarms for 445 am; was dressed and out the door at 0545 am.
Wore shorts, 1 long sleeve running shirt with 1 short sleeve shirt, calf compression sleeves, gloves, & running hat. Wore gloves until mile 3-4; comfortable, started sweating around mile 2-3. Wore Hoka Bondi running shoes; very nice. May have been able to wear only short sleeve shirt, but would have been cold waiting to start race. Carried water bottle w/ hand strap. Hilly course; most on neighborhood roads, Only trained 1 long run a week at Monroe Aquatic Center for previous 6-8 weeks, but trained on inclines 2-5% for entire long run; need to train a minimum of 12 weeks to run less than 2 hours with 2 additional 5-6 mile runs during week. Need more work on lower legs; no major cramping, but legs started getting tired miles 9-12. Starting on/off walking miles 9-13, started around Dilworth neighborhood. Ran up the Moorehead hill without walking.
Plan: increase speed on hill workouts and # of hill workouts /wk to strengthen legs. Work on more inclines during later portions of training runs.
