2017 Charlotte 1/2 Marathon, Sat@0730,$65
Temp @ 30 F at 730 am (wind chill mid 20's), temp at race end @ 38 F; 10 mph wind made it feel a few degrees cooler,esp. last mile. Set alarms for 500 am; was dressed and out the door at 0555 am.
Wore shorts with log running pants, 2 long sleeve running shirt with 1 short sleeve shirt, calf compression sleeves, gloves, head cap & running hat. Wore gloves & both hats entire way; comfortable, started sweating around mile 2, but not a lot. May have been too cold if wore less items. Carried water bottle w/ hand strap. Hilly course; most on neighborhood roads, but only trained for about 8-9 weeks; need to train a minimum of 12 weeks to run less than 3 2 hours. Need more work on lower legs; calves started cramping around mile 9. Starting on/off walking miles 8.5-13. .
Plan: increase speed on hill workouts and # of hill workouts /wk to strengthen legs
