Notes

I reached 1000 miles with this race! A lot of training and perfect conditions made this a favorite. The start of the race was frigid cold at 27 degrees but thankfully the sun was shining and the air warmed by about mile 3. I took a pretty bad spill around mile 5.2. I sat down unsure if the pain was going to ease for about 2-5 minutes, stood and tested the knee I bashed then just told myself "you can't stay here!" and started walking. It took me about 15-20 minutes to shake it off and commit to finishing the race. Good thing the next aid station was far enough away that I was feeling better by the time I got there and went on to walk about 1.5 miles and eat my PBandJ, down a few Vitamin I and run the road. The 3rd aide station was very encouraging and it was nice to see them twice. I kept having twinges of discomfort on my right glute and calf on the ups and IT band on left was hurting on the downs but did not spark up until coming down Coosa Bald. I kept my mind busy for the last 6 miles envisioning a Ice bath in lake Trahlyta. Still not sure why I did not do that when I got back. I was greeted by the speedy runners Michael, Katie and Alan. Proud of myself for my finish time. Definitely the hardest race I have run.
