COMMENTS: Ran the Zoom Through the Zoo 4-miler in Memphis. I'm in pretty good shape, and I was hoping to beat 31:30. But 2 things hurt me:
1) I went out *way* too fast.
2) It was really hot, and I'm not used to the heat.
Recorded splits:
Mile 1 - 7:53 (marker was long)
Mile 2 - 7:20
Mile 3 - 8:38
Mile 4 - 8:05
In reality, I ran the first mile in about 7:20. The Mile 2 marker felt about right at 15:13. I was really hurting by that point, so I had to cut way back to survive mile 3. Mile 4 I tried to speed up but didn't have much left. That first mile really killed me.
I'm OK with my time since I at least beat 32:00, but I learned that positive splitting is a hellacious way to run a race. Live and learn.
