Notes
I didn't have great expectations for this race. I'm finding that marathon training and my 5K race schedule are really conflicting. I went into this race with the mindset of keeping it comfortable. The first mile flew by 7:05 and I was feeling really good. I still held back some wanting to make sure I was feeling strong by the 3rd mile. In years past during this race I was dead at the 2 mile mark. Not this year I was still feeling good but getting tired crossed the mark at 7:09. I was starting to fade early in the 3rd mile and I told myself I was going to kick it up for a strong finish from the 2.5 mile on in. What I wasn't ready for was the wind on that 1/2 mile stretch. Unfortunately I got caught outside of a pack with a 12 yr old girl that was all of 25 lbs soaking wet. She didn't provide much wind coverage, so I passed her and hit mile 3 with a 7:10. Ended with a great kick for the last .15 of the race holding a 5:30 pace. I'm disappointed that I didn't push hard in the 2nd mile, but happy that I kept with my race strategy of keeping it comfortable. For my efforts I did end up with a new 5K PR by about 10 seconds.
