ILLINI CHALLENGE - i have desperately needed to crack my hip all week and I finally had a chance this morning - ate two sausage egg and cheese sandwiches, muffin, and apple at about 10:30 - drank water throughout the day and was very hydrated by race time - everything felt pretty good on the warmup - good stretch and then 4 strides on the line - there was a group that was planning on going out in 5:25 so I decided to try and stay close behind them and aim for 5:30 at the fastest and then stick with that pace - went by the mile in 5:28 and felt pretty good - had to push harder for the second mile but got it in 11:0_ - from there it kinda went downhill - teammates started passing me and the lactic acid started building up - hardly had anything left for the last mile or so - recovered for a bit and then went right into cool down - cool down felt kinda fast but comfortable - not too happy with how this race played out but considering my mileage right now I think that I will improve a lot by the end of the season - Dec said this is about where he was at last year so thats reassuring - Im gonna take it down a bit more next week for the Half and then bring it back up to maintain at about 70 for the rest of the season - if I can keep the mileage up there and hit the speed workouts hard I should be in good shape for nationals
