Notes
My finish time was even slower than I had anticipated.
Slower than my first Monkey. Damn. That's what no training gets
you.
Second age group. The fast women in may age group didn't show
I assume that they are running Boston.
Ran well to mile 17 then knees and feet, especially feet, just ached
with every step. I then slowed considerably.
I tripped on a raised man hole cover just past mile 12. The road had
narrowed and was very crowded around this point. Part of my mind
saw the rise but the other part was busy wondering when the half
would split off and where the heck was the next bathroom stop.
Major face plant.
For a couple seconds I wanted to sit on the ground in a whining,
crying, puddle feeling sorry for my self. I got over it and continued on.
There wasn't much pain and it stopped bleeding fairly quickly so I saw
no reason not to continue.
I needed three stitches under and 10 stitches on top @ GWH after the
race. Finished the race with gaping hole above my eye and dried
blood on my face. Totally freaked out finish line security folks.
Picked up drop bag, went to first aid tent, then to beer garden to wait
for Dale. He had around a 20 minute PR. His only other marathons
have been Monkey x2.
Post race Michelob Ultra never tasted so good.
Then Metro to GWH. Three hours there.
Alas, I can't blame my crappy time on my injury, only on a lack of
training.
mta: 3/18/14 -- It now appears that I also broke my #8 rib on right side. Crazy.
