Notes

Felt awesome again today, things are lookin good.

Executed the tune up I had planned for the day and finished feeling energized and excited.

Warm up

5x 1 min at race pace

Cool down

I had a strange epiphany during the fast pieces. Iv been wondering about pace, how to pace without laps, how it will feel post swim and bike, etc.

For some reason it took actually executing and going through the motions of race pace to realize a new source of confidence that in Hindsight seems blatantly obvious.

I set my timer for 1 minute, one minute on one minute off, and hit the start button. The plan was to let one minute go by to cross a road and then begin my first piece at the first beep. So when I hit start I essentially had 60 seconds to think about what 5k might feel like out here on this gravel path. I spent about 20 seconds doing some math and getting a little more nervous about pacing on Saturday. But suddenly my mind jumped to workouts on the indoor track in January and February. Of course! Every one of those workouts starts with a piece at 5k pace. I can run 45s around the indoor track in my sleep. I thought back to countless times I hit that cone at the exact time my watch beeped, and I could still see the grin on Steve pasche's face when he sees the impeccable pacing. Immediately I went from nervous to grinning. 45s, piece of cake :)

Three pieces in I calculated (using tenth of a mile markers) how far I had run at race pace: one half mile exactly. I looked at my watch and smiled. How long had it taken me? 2:59. At that point I stopped checking, it was unnecessary.

Maggie Just close your eyes and feel the indoor track. 45's. Bring it on.
