Felt really strong and really fit today, as this whole week has felt. Just in time for race day :)
I ran from my house to my mom's office, a trick I employed frequently during my high school years to allow for some variety in routes. I was lacking some motivation late in the afternoon and figured this old trick would give me a new destination, some motivation, and no choice but to finish. But boy was I wrong. The destination turned out to be good because it prevented me from running and running and running some more. I got to the office in about 6 miles and decided to add another around downtown Wayzata. I was planning for 6 but I felt light and spry and energized, I couldn't help but go a little further. After 7 I was about 3 steps away from turning it into a long run simply because it was coming easily, but a race looming on Saturday convinced me to put that extra motivation for a long run in my back pocket and save it for next week. I went 12 on Saturday and 12 yesterday, so I definitely didn't need another longer one today. Its great to feel fit, especially because last week I spent so many days feeling sore and lathargic. It's amazing what a little rest and a little taper can do. If the legs cooperate on Saturday as they cooperated today, it should be a really fun event.
