I didn't deserve this workout after the way I treated my body this weekend- but it happened. And I wonder why it happened. But I'm not complaining. Maybe the 1/2 a Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake that I single-handedly took down on Saturday night was an effective amount of carbo-loading, who knows.

Worked a retreat this weekend because the camp director that Anders and I worked for is stepping away after 14 years and many of us "alum" were asked to work it as part of one last hurrah for him. It was great fun, and also exhausting. Got 5.5 hours of sleep on Friday night, and about 5 hours on Saturday night. That doesn't exactly aid recovery. And if I had wanted to run on Saturday I would have had to set my alarm an hour earlier, and I just wasn't willing to do it. Running definitely wasn't the priority on Saturday, so I unintentionally got my first day-off in a couple months. No regrets.

Then stood for 8 hours at a track meet on Saturday, and consumed two perkins chocoloate chip muffins and 3 beef sticks for lunch. Met Anders for a brief birthday dinner on my way from the track meet back to the retreat, and pounded half an order of buffalo wings, a bacon cheeseburger, and sweet potato fries. And later Saturday night ate 1/2 a dairy queen ice cream cake, my fair share of potato chips, and jumped for 40 minutes straight during an activity from about 12:30 to 1:15am.

Sunday got up and cleaned and packed up, went home, and took a two hour nap from 12:30 to 2:30. After that I got up, and groggily headed out the door with Anders to run.

And I repeat, I wonder why this workout went so well.

14 miles with 8 of them at marathon pace. Goal was to be a bit faster than last week.

splits were 7:02, 6:53, :55, :53, :53, :51, :48, :51.

Felt great. Got tougher for the last 1.5 miles or so, but the pace felt like it came fairly easily, and the legs cooperated nicely. Biggest annoyance was the fact that my stomach got annoyed with about 3 miles to go, and I just hoped that I wouldn't have to stop to destroy a porta-potti. (see above comments about nutrition choices this weekend).

Only other event to note is the fact that for the first time ever, a bird literally shit on my while I was running. I was on a sidewalk and all of a sudden something fell in front of me and a warm and gooey substance splat on my chest and ran down into my sports bra. Yummy.
