Had an absolutely fantastic workout this morning with Anders. This was the one I wanted to nail this week, and it felt great to do so. Couldn't have imagined better company. Beyond glad we got to do it together, it definitely wouldn't have gone quite as well without a training parter alongside. That, and the joy I got from doing it on a perfect, fall, Minnesota morning in one of my favorite places was just enough to make my heart explode.

The goal was to start easy ish, and simply work down over about 13 miles towards half marathon pace and then hopefully below that. My goal was to run at least 6 miles at half pace or faster.

I felt fantastic from the start. Once I started hitting the 6:30's I definitely felt the work, and I'm thrilled about that and that's right about what I expected. The last 2 were tough. But I'm energized by the fact that the biggest challenge was a very acute soreness and fatigue in my calves. The hamstrings, quads, etc and lungs held up really well.

I was fighting calf soreness all last week, and it was definitely still present even in the warm-up today, so the fact that that was my biggest limiting factor is encouraging. Come race time and a few good weeks of taper I'm sure my calves will be ready to roll.

I ran the workout in my Lunar Tempos and loved them again. This was my 3rd workout in them, and the longest effort by far. Looking forward to using those as my race shoes when the day comes.

Finally got my new training shoes in the mail today, which will also help the calves. My old ones are going on about 480 miles, and that's longer than I usually push shoes. Definitely was feeling that.

Overall very excited about how the workout went today.
