I had an absolutely awesome run on the trails of Decorah. There really is no place like this incredible place to be a runner. I'm working distance running camp this week, and I was dying to get in a really solid run on trails prior to the schedule of the week beginning. I arrived in Decorah around 9:30 and drove straight to the river trail trailhead so as not to waste any time or miles, went to the bathroom, changed my clothes, and hit the trails. I ran river trails to lower palisades, and then did all of lower, middle, and upper Pali. The trails were exhilarating and familiar at the same time, and I ran oh so very happy. I descended from palisades and still had a great amount of time. I think theres a chance I'll get into Dunnings this week for the "Mud Run", so I decided to head to Van Peenen, because I KNOW we won't get that far with campers. I took Luge up the backside of Dunnings and then down into the valley, and then ran rocky road up into Van Peenen. Little Bighorn might be my favorite trail in Decorah, so I opted to hop on the top half of Little Bighorn from Rocky Road. I ran Little Bighorn around to the backside of Van Peenen, past the secret campsite, and met the prairie trail. I stopped there to look at my watch and realized YIKES! I was going to have to do some serious running to get back to my car in time. I absolutely HAULED on the backside of the prairie until I got to the back corner, which I had assessed at that point would be the most direct route back. Then I descended on North 40 and sprinted Public TV out to Quarry Hill. Cruised river trail back to my car, and got back just in time to change my shoes and meet Doug and Vaughn for lunch at T Bocks. It was the absolute PERFECT start to what is sure to be a great week.

I felt absolutely awesome running out there today. Felt like I could have run forever on the Decorah trails.
