Well, yesterday's workout was a fail.

Goal was 4x8 min @ threshold.

Long story short, I left the house feeling okay, and over the next two hours proceeded to throw up twice, be extremely dizzy and achy, and struggle on my 3rd rep to run under 7min pace. After 2 min of my 3rd rep I shut it down, and it took me an hour to walk/jog the 3 miles back home.

I'm not sure what happened. At first I thought it was some sort of virus or stomach bug- it felt like the achiness and nausea that comes with the flu. And in hindsight, even earlier in the day I had some weird shoulder pains and aches, and I asked a co-worker to help me with a knot in my back. I didn't even think about it then, but likely that was the onset of it.

However, a few days later, I'm almost positive that it had something to do with my period. I haven't gotten it in a couple months (not because of pregnancy, trust me), and oftentimes when that happens its because of high mileage and high intensity in training. Well, fast forward about 16 hrs, and all of a sudden on Thursday evening I got what is perhaps the most severe and acute period I've ever had. It's like my body was fighting a civil war for two months to make it happen, but didn't have the energy, and all of a sudden decided that in these two days it was going to happen no matter what- regardless of how much energy it was going to need. Over the course of one night of sleep I ruined 3 different pairs of running shorts, I had terrible nausea and back aches again, and at about 6:30am (Friday morning) I think I lost the equivalent of 2-3 months of uterine lining in one explosive swoop when I sat down on the toilet. (TMI, I apologize).

Its been an experience.

I guess I hope that if it is in fact period related, the side effects will be gone in a few hours, as that is what usually happens to me. (Also, there seriously can't be anything left in there).

Here's to hoping that this afternoon, Friday, will bring a decent run.

OOOOooooooooof. That sounds absolutely miserable, and I'm so very sorry. I hate throwing up just because of menstruation. And the weird lead-up of achiness etc. Not fair, not cool. The uterus is one powerful organ/muscle. Those bad ones make for the longest run/walks home...I remember a few specifically where I honestly didn't think I could move myself the final half mile. I hear you.

Power to you and to all women who cope with these monthly (or bi-monthly or totally random) episodes of ridiculous and unnecessary pain and agony. That is one unique period, and I hope you're feeling recovered and better now. Ouch and yuck and ugh to bodies that feel the need to prepare us for pregnancy every single month!
