Got up and 'ran' with my parents this morning. We did a very slow warm-up to Oakwood, my old elementary school. It's probably just about a mile from my house to the school. Upon arriving my dad and I did his typical workout. 3x fast loops around the school grounds. It's probably about 2/3 of a mile. The pace was a little faster than a tempo pace, and it felt great to stretch out and move at a slightly faster pace with my dad. On the last one he said "race you back" about half way through, and he kicked it up a few gears. He definitely got a few yards on me right away, as I wasn't expecting the challenge, but I can confidently say I can still handle my father. Accelerated past him and he laughed. I Helped pull him along to a time about 12 seconds faster than the first two, and then eased up a bit at the end and we cross the finish line (determined by the fire hydrant) together. "Tied" we both said simultaneously, and laughed. Ran around a bit more with my mom and then the three of us headed home. Some of it was slower than 8 min pace, and some of it was definitely faster. My watch said 40 minutes of running at the end, so I'm happily and confidently calling it 5. Fun to get out with my parents and enjoy the beautiful day together before I headed home.
