Notes

This race blew me away.

Is 5:16my mile PR? No, not at all. Was it the best race I've ever run? No, not at all. But today I got the chance to lace up the spikes as an alum, and race on the Luther Blue Track another time. I toed the line with Tricia Serres and Emma Spoon, and we put doubt and lack of consistent training behind us, and we just ran for the pure joy of running.

And after today the three of us came up with a new motto: Old and Fat and Still Kicking Ass.

I'm really aerobic fit right now because I'm skiing 14 hrs/week, but I haven't run a mile since November, and I haven't been healthy since August. I have zero running-specific fitness. To think that I could be not trained for running even a little bit, and pull out a good old 5:16 gives me a glimmer of hope. But even more than that, for 5 minutes and 16 seconds today, I got to race with my teammates, run the curves, hear the cheers of the crowd, and do nothing but run, uninhibited, regardless of consequences. And I will always do anything to race with my teammates on the track.

Tricia, Emma, and I went 1-2-3, and I wouldn't change that race or that finish line moment for anything.

Next Year: Luther Alumni Meet 2019, I'm going to be healthy, I'm going to be running trained, and I'm going under 5 minutes and I'm taking Emma and Tricia with me. Look out, its gonna be a showdown.
