Cold morning. Uphill start so a bunch of people went off way too fast. Spent the first half catching and passing them all. Ran the second half with another guy and we were pretty evenly matched (strong westerly headwind). I was tiring by the last downhill mile, but pulled away by a couple of seconds at the finish. It never got super painful so probably could have kept going for another 2km if I'd pushed myself.
Coming back into Overlook Drive the gate was locked and a cyclist was coming the other way, so instead of stopping and waiting I hurdled the low gate.
Analyzing this later: pushed too hard in the second mile, overtaking people. Would have been better to have kept more in reserve for the second half so I could slowly accelerate, rather than getting stuck at a fixed pace.
