Notes

Ran the duck island mile at Warrior's Path State park. Overall the course was pretty fair. First 500 meters pretty flat then had a 250 meter steady ascent. The last 800 was net down back to finish. Was looking for sub 5:20 with under 5:17 which i ran in the fall really the A goal. Got out in decent position going 3rd through the 400 in 76. Hank Clabaugh was leading. About halfway up the hill in the 2nd 400 i could feel myself find a groove and noticed that the gap to Hank and the guy in 2nd steadied. Went through 800 in 2:37. Pretty soon after the 800 i started moving on 2nd and went straight through. Because I knew it was net down and i was holding a good stride I ended up settling a little to much in the race. Got to 1200 in 3:57 and knew all i needed was a solid last 400 with a downhill and I would meet my goals. Unfortunately this meant again I just settled too much and didn't make a concerted effort to do something to close the gap down on hank. I needed a change in stride and I didn't do that. Didn't get forward on the balls of my feet. Overall I am pleased with a 5:13 on a certified mile course. Shows I am in decent shape and maybe best shape since 2010. But again I am not doing a good job of racing in the moment and doing do much with splits and overthinking. Would like to be sub 5:10 at a mile in the next month and maybe make a run at sub 5 this summer.
