Notes

After a really tough couple of weeks where nothing felt good, I was happy to go out and enjoy this one. After talking to Yarrow this week, we decided that no race pace strategy was best based on how my body has been feeling. I just wanted to feel what it was like to race again. It had been 4 years since I ran a 10k and since I've been a little out of workouts lately, I didn't have any clue what to expect.

I definitely went out too fast. There is a little downhill at the beginning and my shoes were light and I was finally RACING again...but coming through the first mile at 5:50 with Emma Lee woke me up pretty quickly. I honestly wish I hadn't looked at the split though. I pretty much put the breaks on when I realized how hard I had gone out, and forced myself to slow and chill for the first 5k.

Found out...the 10k is fun! It felt super short after having not raced in forever and having the marathon as my last real race effort. I couldn't believe when I hit the halfway point and was ready to start chasing a few people down. Caught two women over the next couple of miles, and just loved the rare opportunity to race with some really fit ladies!

I wish I could have been a little more confident and found one more gear for this race -- I didn't finish super tired, I just felt like I ran out of room without the ability to really change pace. Overall...I'd say it was a success. Super fun race and a beautiful day.
