Took off well...peyton was running with me. This was really his day! I was running a little faster than I like, but it's a race, right?
Peyton was doing great...I asked him around a mile if he wanted to go faster and he said "this was a pretty good pace". This was just after his 4th grade teacher (last ear) and his PE teacher passed us. At around 1.3 miles Peyton started pulling away and I told him to GO if he had it in him...he did.
It turns out he passed his 4th grade teacher and PE teacher to finish around 23:30...I'll revise when the scores are posted. Unfortunately, this is not fast enough to bring home any hardware. I think with some training he will shave 3 minutes or more off of his time and win many of these races.
I got to 2 miles at 16:30 (SOMETHING LIKE THAT) and relized that I had a shot at sub-25 minutes...a goal of mine! So, I picked it up...ran hard...mis-calculated the actual finish line and kicked a little early...way too early. Last time call was at 3 miles...24:38 with a 1/10 to go...no f'ing way. Very dissapointed. Finished around 25:30.
Highlight of my day was hearing Peyton's name called at the finish while I had 3/4 of a lap to run. AND, the announcer laughing and calling me out when I finished and told the whole crowd that his son beat him!
I can do better.
