40's haulin butt..summer's running away ... (Read 480 times)

Top 'O the World!

TGIF Everybody!! Lynda: Hey! Good to hear from you...Hope you guys are staying cool up there!!! they're projecting 102* w/NO chance of rain today/tomorrow....Thanks for the input on the shoes....I'm test driving the Saucony's D width w/inserts (feels weird) for now, but I like to have a "rotation" going....got the Asics web site open & reading as we speak....looking at what you've been using ....what Doc said for me, yes I have wide feet & most women's shoes aren't really buildt for wide feet, then in the Summertime you have "heat expansion" + the amt of mileage I'm going for adds more, so my normal shoes may be fine in the Winter, but not so much in the Summer....& then my arch, while w/i the "normal" range, is a bit low, hence the light inserts - to give my toes more room...a chat w/another wide footed running GF advised that some of the men's shoes are too roomy in the heel...& that boys' sizes may fit better that way, but have less arch support! Roll eyes .....I shall keep looking...btw: this looks like a fun Mountain getaway to consider - Sept 14th http://www.leadkingloop25k.com/ Oh! and a much shorter (fun) race on Sept 6th is the Skirt Chaser 5K...http://www.skirtchaser5k.com/ Big grin Let us know what you decide to do...if it's workable w/our schedule, we'll join you. The only thing that I'm on deck for before Oct is the Georgetown next wknd...& Doug is just running around the neighborhood for now! Kelly: I think you mentioned that it was "possible" that they's screwed up the results...in which case, you're not repeating, just clarifying! Wink soo, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!! Leslie: I believe "ranting" in on the list of acceptable postings in this forum....Big grin I don't know if we've all utilitzed this important feature, but..... Rest Day here...(not that I need another rest day, but have 14 on deck @ 5:30am...) I've rewritten my training schedule to include 2 rest days...& in order to get the mileage up where I need it, will be doubling up on boot camp days....xt for today: housework incl, complete re-organization of kitchen/storage/entertaining area.....staying in the AC for the afternoon Wink

Happy Friday, Everyone! Schedule said "Rest Day," so I did, 'cause I have a feeling this will be my last Friday Rest Day for quite awhile. Kelly - So they got it all figured ou? Was it a She-Man or just a screw up? Either way - CONGRATULATIONS! Oh, and I have the hexagon dumbells (various weights from 5-20 lbs.). I didn't even think about using those. Thanks for the idea! Farmer Jim - Will check out that web site. I'm always looking for good country music. There's so much pop crap out there right now - ugh! Cindy - Had this vision of Doug running around the neighbor waving his arms in the air like a crazy person. Big grin Joe - The Boss is a nice guy, but just a horrible, horrible procrastinator, and it drives me absolutely crazy. Actually, two out of three are procrastinators. And, of course, their lack of preparation makes things harder on me. But then, I'm just lowly secretary, right? Wink Arla - You all caught up yet? When does school begin? Carol - Hi! Today is The Hub's and my 21st anniversary. As of today, I have been married for half my life, literally. Weird. Have a good Friday!

This is an interesting game. Last night I got a "31." This morning I got a "25" and "22" respectively. This is fun...reproduce the numbers the way they appeared. Even though the directions are in 'characters'. it is easy to figure out! This is interesting !!! See if your brain is as old as your body ~ or ~ (perish the thought) ~ OLDER !! Procedure of Flash Fabrica Game: 1 Touch 'start' 2 Wait for 3, 2, 1. 3 Memorize the number positions on the screen, then click the circles in order from the smallest number to the biggest. 4 At the end of game, the computer will tell you how old your brain is. http://flashfabrica.com/f_learning/brain/brain.html

They were giving helicopter rides at the fair this year. Morris and Ester were quite wealthy but you could never telll it by looking at them. They had a amassed a fortune in farmland but lived frugally even to the point of buying used underwear at the thrift store. Morris and his wife Esther went to the fair every year, and every year Morris would say, 'Esther, I'd like to ride in that helicopter.' Esther always replied, 'I know Morris, but that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars' This year when Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said, 'Esther, I 'm 85 years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance.' To this, Esther replied, 'Morris that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars.' The pilot overheard the couple and said, 'Folks I'll make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say a word, I won't charge you! But if you say one word, it's fifty dollars.' Morris and Esther agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word. When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, 'By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!' Morris replied, 'Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, but you know, fifty dollars is fifty dollars!' Parts of this story are true Wink oh and happy anniversary Leslie! that skirt chaser race looks fun but our schedule is looking kinda bleak for now.

The whole world said I shoulda used red but it looked good to Charlene in John Deere Green!!

Parts of this story are true Wink quote> That's a pissah Jim! Glad you're feeling better after all that partying you and Lynda are doing! What's next? Rock and roll?!? BTW-just kidding about that whole "outkicking your coverage" thing .....Smile Kelly- Way to Go Girl!! Number ONE Baby!! You Rawk !!! Top of the List for you!! Great going!!! Leslie - Happy Anniversary to you and DHub! And here's to many more too! Good going on the rest day too, you deserve it! Went out for a 2-lap 10.2m run around the reservior on the way home from work.Much too hot for Buddy @ 85* and my plan was to go very slow. The marathon plan I'm starting calls for my easy run pace to be @ 10:22 which is a full minute more than my easy pace has been. Well I was doing good trying to slow down but comfortably ran the first 7 @ about 10:00 per. Then this 20 something girl passed me by and I said to myself, keep it slow. I did and 3/4 m up she's walking. I keep going and here she comes and passes me again. No ego, no problem. Sure enough, come to some uphills, she's walking again. I'm chugging along. Few minutes later, I hear her coming up again. Hey, I got my pride. Bottom line is she wasn't going to pass me for the third time. So,my last three miles were at about 8:15per. Left her in the dust. Then like the complete moron I am , 3 -16 yo boys came galloping up behind and I tried to beat them!! They left me in the dust! "Stupid EGO" I said, get a grip. No worse for the wear and tear but just goes to show. Showed those whipper-snappers sumthin' ... Hey Everyone, Here's some weekend reading if you're stuck inside-it's my loooong race report from Jay. I had it posted in the Ultra Forum http://www.runningahead.com/groups/ultra/Forum/b74c3db880ed4de69a9630385fa55fa8 I thought I was going to have a quiet weekend at home however the race director for the VT100 died of a heart attack on Monday and the memorial service is tomorrow for him and Jack and I decided to go. Take care! Kelly

Kelly - I'm very sorry to hear that. My thoughts and prayers to his family. Joe - You crack me up! The Hub's already in bed, so I'm just floating around on the Internet. He had a hard day at work. Walked in this evening and looked like he'd been run over by a truck. That's what happens when you get as old as he is (47) and are married as long as we've been (21 years). Big grin Nite!

Good morning everyone..... Kelly, way to go on such a difficult course. I loved the video of the "wickedpissah" team. Would love to see some pics when you get around to it. Again.....you're pretty incredible. Leslie, congrats on your anniversary. Hope all works out with your job and all. I'm sure it will. Cindy, hope your scheduled 14 goes well today. You've come along way. Speaking of shoes and sizes and such I really need a new pair. I think next week I'll head up to the Running Zone and get a pair. Joe is gettin' in those miles. Congrats on your huge mileage for July! Your story cracked me up. Ya know, we all have that competiveness in us in some way or another. That was truely funny! You wicked pissah.....just had to throw that in there since your a Jersey boy. My hubs from Mass., so him and his brother joke around abit and throw that word in there once in awhile, and I'm like, huh? Jim, what a funny story about Morris and Ester. Glad to see you and Lynda getting in the runs between such a busy schedule that you guys have. Hope your dad is doing well. Carol, how is the HH training coming along? Ya, ya.....I printed out the HH half training program and stuck it on the fridge and......well.....that's about it. Haven't made the commitment yet. Arla, nice to have you back. Sounds like you had a great time with friends. Maybe a little too much partying? Wink Glad your runs are getting back to normal. Did ya get some pics? Summer semester ended Thursday....woot, woot! Friday morning did an easy short run. Got out for a run this morning at 8 a.m., 81 degrees, 94% humidity which makes the heat index 91. Did an easy 5.5 and was soaked to the bone by the time I got home. Have a great weekend all........Jewels

                    Top 'O the World!

Greetings! Joe!! Big grin Big grin...except that I'm not as fast as you....I've done that! "C'mon, you can keep up w/Grandma!"...I really get a kick out of the younguns w/the TNT group when I deliberately pace w/one of the slower ones & chat....they pretty universally say, "You don't have to wait for me...I don't wanna hold you back...I know I don't run as fast as you..." Blush hmmm you think maybe I'm annoying them & so they want me to just go bug someone else?? then again, there's the perspective thing....when I run w/the Snug Runners I'm ALWAYS towards the back of the pack!! by several minutes! (ego check!) heard that story before Jim....ya changed the names again didn't cha?! Wink Clowning around Also, from one of the BB folks: http://www.runningahead.com/groups/DAR/Forum/Post/ad5a6a8a939b4a0192bfb62d620a3899#focus ....I'll play that game later.... Carefull who yer callin OLD Leslie!! Hope you had a great anniversary! musta been pups when ya hitched up! Nope Jewels, sounds like your 5.5 went much better than my 10...they changed the training program!? Foot still giving me a little grief....that & 80 degrees/clear skies by 8am.... Roll eyes ah well...maybe I can just keep going like I didn't do a "long run" this week....& have a HM this next Saturday up in Georgetown again....letting my foot dictate how I run that one...

Hi, All - Jewels - How long a break do you get before school starts back up? Running in 94% humidity. Dead Cindy - Keep that foot happy, Little Lady! And yes, I was young - 21 - when we got married. Would never recommend anyone getting married that young nowadays. Go out and get some experience with life first. Farmer Jim - Love the story. Smile Joe - Is "pissah" the same as "pisser," but with a New Joisey accent?? An hour on the trails this a.m. It felt good to get back out there. Then Coach Bill came over and we spent the last two hours putting together a new program for me. Lots of leg work, with one exercise having me go Shocked. It's on my 18" step, and using one leg for support, you squat part way down off the side of the step and just barely let the toe of the other leg touch a 4-lb. weight that's laying on the ground, then lift yourself back up. Act like the weight is a paper cup you don't want to squash - or actually use a cup. I'll use the weight. I'd end up going through too many paper cups. I lost my balance after the 3rd one. I'm chalking it up to trying all the other exercises he was showing me, as well as the legs being tired from the run this a.m. Wink We're gonna go out and celebrate tonight, so I gotta get some transcription out of the way. Have a good weekend!

Cool Jewels, woohoo....school's out...time to party, right?! Clowning around 4 treadmill miles for me today. Dreadfully hot here, low 85, high 105. My "run-outside-no-matter-what" mindset seems to be missing in action, so I'm very glad to have the gym right now. Training plan is going pretty well, I did the 1st 3 weeks of Hal Higdon 10K plan, and now am dovetailing onto week 2 (or maybe 3) of the 1/2 marathon plan. Was a slight overachiever on the long runs according to the scheudle Yes, and out of 3 weeks, I've missed two workouts so far. Not too bad except it was two in a row this week that I missed. Blush

Speedwork today in the form of the 1 mile at the fair. I have done so many 5k's this summer and they didn't have a 10k at this race and I wanted to support the organizers so thats what I did.I ran the course for a warmup then some strides. Front row in a very small field was me and a couple of teen girl cross country runners, then some 30-40 somethings some50 -60 somethings, one with a dog and dad. I started way too fast, something about trying to get ahead of the youngun's a common theme here it seems Big grin Wink Wink, coasted a little recovery in the middle then ran hard to the finish. They had me at 7:45 but the Garmin said 7:08 ave pace and measured the course at 1.10 which makes quite a difference on a 1 mile. Anyway I was all alone the whole race, the x-country girls never got within 200 yards of me. I caught my breath after the finish then caught up to dad and walked him in. We bookended, first and last. Then we hung around and cheered the 5k'ers in. Most were off previous pace by a minute or so, too danged hot. My family doc, a four minute miler back in 67 came up and shook my hand, which made me feel pretty good. Smile Crosstrained after by digging out a center pivot irrigation tower stuck in the mud in a tall hot, humid corn field. Then hauled bags of lava rock to fill wheel tracks of one that had gotten stuck last nite. Hey Joe, no worries man, I think of it as the other way around, ya know farmers have this hard working, salt of the earth honest, fair image and attorneys...............well you know. Wink She knows all the lawyer jokes and if I hear a new one I am always sure to try it out on her!! Evil grin And as u can tell I am right there with ya man, Cindy too dusting off those young uns. Actually my cousin in calif. sent me the story via email but I could name about 10 couples from here that it would fit, sometimes the roles are reversed. I know one couple that bought new John Deere tractors 2 at a time but shopped for used underwear at the thrift store. Yes Kelly sorry to hear that, bummer. Leslie hope u and the hub have a great nite out u deserve it after your week. Yay Jewels school is out!! WTG getting in the miles in the heat and esp the humidity. Carol,Nice job on the treadmills, maybe the shorter days of August will bring u some cooler night/early morn temps. Here in August we can get hot but not for as many hours.

The whole world said I shoulda used red but it looked good to Charlene in John Deere Green!!

All right, I finally have some time to get pictures up of my race from last weekend which I do have to say I'm recovering nicely from-I've been able to sit down and walk down stairs without making a face since Thursday and I'm running uphill better than ever! Big grin Here is the start... This is coming up the river bank after the second culvert to get ready for the hike up Jay Peak Me going down Jay Peak This is actually before the picture above and it's of a friend of mine. The RD put this section in just so we would make it to the actual summit of Jay and not 50ft below it as in years past....nice guy! This is the end of one of the river sections coming into an aid station once I cross it-the half way point-19 miles This is the last river crossing Me at the finish-check out those muddy legs! My socks used to be somewhat white... Hope you're having a good weekend! I get to look forward to a training run on the Mt Mansfield Toll Rd tomorrow-4.5 miles of downhill pounding! I'll need help going down the stairs again come Monday and Tuesday! If you want to see more pictures-check out dironstarr here http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t62/dironstarr/Jay%20Challenge/ He took some while on the course.

Very Kewl Kelly!! I still say that looks like loads of fun! (looking around for the reality TV crews...)...now the distance.... Shocked...this is a bit of what's avail in my neck of the woods:http://www.leadkingloop25k.com/ well, ~ and the TransRockies - which is insanely long!!.... curious about your "race fuel" ....you keep mentioning PB&J & Coke...?? Jim: Big grin Cool Shocked Dang! Yer Fast!! Awesome time!!.... Now, was ya skeerd of dem itty bitty girls ketchin yas that ya had ta keep em 200yds back? "ah kin run faster skeerd dan mad any day!!" Big grin hmmm, now that would be an intersting race strategy...... Sounds like Dad is still having a good time Smile ....hmmm, gonna have to pick my brains for legal jokes....have family & friends in the profession and then worked SO/PD years ago....some of their jokes are completely tasteless!!! Carol: Take it easy in the heat!! Weather.com says you won't have a single day below 100 in the next 10!!!! Shocked those temps are temporarily kicking my butt here lately too...however, we do get down to 69 degrees overnight, so if you can go out @ 5am you can get a few in before it gets ridiculous! So Jewels: does that mean you're done w/school, or just this semester?? & does that mean "vacation time" or what? At least margaritas poolside! Wink Arla must be out runnin' in the cool CA weatha!
