Hey, I am up 5 pounds too Angry TimplumpBo

Running has given me the courage to start, the determination to keep trying, and the childlike spirit to have fun along the way - Run often and run long, but never outrun your Joy of running!

    Trails are hard!

Since people were talking about it, I noticed a couple of things regarding weight. First, I just looked at the workout overview and it shows calories burned. (using just weight and distance) Has anyone ever looked at how accurate this is? and this led my to the second thing. I lost a pound over the weekend in spite serious gorging. the calculation had me losing over 1700 calories for my 2 long runs over the weekend. Does this really take away the several plates of stuffing and mashed potatoes? Just wondering if I might be on my way to curing the 10 lbs that have re-accumulated over the past year or so.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Sounds like everyone is still percolating right along. Veeery good. Tramps - Congrats on the marathon finish! Glad your feel felt vundebah afterward Mari - Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I think being there at the end with someone you love (me with my mom) is one of the most precious gifts in life. 6 hilly miles this a.m. with a 10:01 ap. Very happy with that. Will be glad when I get this 30k done and over with this coming Sunday. I'm tired of climbing the same 4 hills over and over and over . . . and over. Mary - I managed to lose 4 lbs. somewhere along the way over the past 4 days, and I am clueless as to how it happened. Not complaining, though! Maybe it's all the berry pie w/whipped cream I ate. Can't think of any other explanation. Later, gang! MTA: This is for Dicky: An Oz driver has been fined AU$600 for "offensive behaviour, resisting police and disobeying a police direction" after cracking one off into a pasta sauce jar even as coppers attempted to subdue him with batons and capsicum spray following a "slow-speed" car chase through Newcastle, New South Wales. The drama began when officers spotted Keith Roy Weatherley, 46, "parked in a no-stopping zone near Nobby's Beach on October 26". According to the Newcastle Herald, they thought he "might have a weapon"* since he was "doing something with his hands in his lap". He was in fact "partially clothed with his genitals in a jar", a police report explained. The perp made a dash for it, was pulled, refused to exit the vehicle and four officers were obliged to persuade him from his car. The law enforcement operatives identified "a 750mm** jar around his penis" and said Weatherley gamely insisted on continuing to pleasure himself "between bouts of wrestling". A search of Weatherley's motor uncovered "pornography, a homemade sex aid, women's stockings and a Jack Russell terrier". He pleaded guilty to the aforementioned raft of charges yesterday at Newcastle Local Court. The role of the Jack Russell in the incident is not noted. ®

No walking for me today. I had a PET/CT scan this afternoon. Right now I'm not feeling real good and have a meeting to go to at 7. I just want to stay home and sleep.

Ugh. Can you skip the meeting? What flavor contrast did you drink? I like the banana better than the berry.

hello everyone, it's been a long time since i've posted here, and not much running in the meantime. work. the flu. life. the usual. since my last 5k in early september i've managed to cut down on running days and go up in weight to the worst i've been since i started running again - not quite where i started then, but if i don't do something about it, i'll be there by the end of the year. so... after 3 weeks of flu, we finally started running again, managing 4 slooooow miles, and that's what we did today on a gray foggy freezy morning. my goal (you gotta have a goal) is to hit 80 miles this month, which will bring the year to 800 miles. i hope. good runs, susan (76 miles to go...)
Hi Susan! Welcome back. It's going to be a spectacular show in the sky tonight. If it's better than last night, it'll be awesome. http://news.aol.com/article/look-to-sky-for-spectacular-sight-monday/263580

Leslie - is that for real? Too funny! Munch - take care of yourself. I hope you're feeling better soon. Susan - welcome back. We've all been up and down with life and injuries lately. I hope you meet your goal. Mary - I'll take your 2 pounds and raise you 4! Haven't been on the scale since before Thanksgiving, but I think I'm past Holly's fat pants and into Jerad the Subway guy's. Wink Must stay focused...must stay focused...
Leslie - is that for real? Too funny!
Yeah - I heard it on the news first this past weekend. The visual is almost too much to bear. Big grin

                    Carolyn

Good luck to all of you struggling with post-Thanksgiving weight loss issues! With the festive Christmas eating season and crappy running weather season upon us, it will be a struggle for sure! Munch, hope your latest tests come out OK. Stumpy, you said it shows calories burned in the workout overview -- is that in the RA log? I don't see it... I went out for an easy 3.25 mile run this afternoon. I didn't go at lunch because it was only 45 degrees and overcast, and I only brought shorts with me. But the sun came out and it was up to 51 by 3 pm, so out I went. The legs are a little tight after skiing yesterday, but I'm glad I got out.

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

I just looked at the workout overview and it shows calories burned. (using just weight and distance) Has anyone ever looked at how accurate this is?
For me, not at all. It depends on a lot of factors, including your weight, age, and how efficiently your body has become at doing the given exercise (as in, burning as few calories as possible). I have read that a woman my size burns about 80-85 calories per mile running. I've not been rigorous enough with my calorie counting to fully test the accuracy of this, but I wonder sometimes if I even burn THAT much. Leslie... Big grin {{{Munch}}} Susan - hiya!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Made it to the gym for a nice 30+ minute workout with DH. Well, he worked out with me I should say... 10 minute warm up on the elliptical, then we went through my typical routine. He likes to do the weights, but frequently does too much, or unbalanced workouts or too much weight, whatever, and ends up getting hurt. So I showed him what I do with the lat pulldown, chest flye and chest press, one arm rows (and two arm rows on one leg to test his balance---needs work), a new bicep move called "21's" (new to me at least), and tricep stuff. Finished with ab crunches on the stability ball. I asked him if he was done and good to go, he said, yep, and turned towards the lockers. It was a good workout... hope he'll want to do it again soon. I told him tomorrow we'd do legs... Big grin
((mari and family)) so glad your fil had a peaceful death with his loving family by his side i'm still exhausted - slept awful last night and had to be in Boston for a 7am conference -- drove in with a friend who is also a night nurse and we both vowed we'd never work days -- getting up that early is just not me anymore - lol .......... and to make it worse i have to be at the hospital by 6am tom. morning with my 20yr old who is having surgery for a torn ACL and yes this is the same kid who had hand surgery back in March when he broke it in a fist fight!!!! grrrrrrrr -- i think i better go to bed now!!

I don't see it... quote> Carolyn Yes. in the log, if you look at the "workout" list and then "view entry" you see calories (and VO2 max) at the bottom. but it's only there if you've entered your weight in the workout.

Need a fast half for late fall.  Then I need to actually train for it.

Thanks for your love, your hugs and your support. 6 miles on the TM after work. I was going for an 8 miler since I had the time for myself tonight, but the brain told me in very bold ways that we ain't going to go that far in our first treadmill session since last February...so... six I did and then spent some time with weights and core ex. So happy to see fjordrunner here today. SRLopez, I so admire your attitude towards life..banana flavor contrast Smile {{{{munch}}}}}}}}}
