The Sunday daily...aka OrangeMat's first marathon daily!!! (Read 482 times)

Woohoo for OM, li'l Buerhle, and all the other racers! Even you, Tom!

We had another IRC morning for our club run, and Perch came through with good coffee, bagels, and baked goods. It was the time of year plus conditions for a really big turnout, and I spent more time talking to people afterwards than I did running my 6 miles around the lake -- and socializing is not exactly my strong suit. Runners are such good, upbeat people, whether they be around in real life or virtually like on this forum!

I hope that real RRs are still the norm in this group, as I want to hear what OM has to say about her experience.

Doug, runnin' cycling in Rochester, MI

"Think blue, count two, and look for a red shoe"

Congrats to OM, CR, LMRS and Nono!!!

I'm sooooo happy for you, Esther!  Can't wait for the RR.

Mari.... you asked yesterday about the garden porn.... yup, I'm starting to look at the catalogs longingly, but likely won't be ordering this year.  I stocked up on tomato seeds last year, and that's about all I do from seed these days anyway.  My coleus and geranium cuttings under the lights in the basement are doing their bit to keep the gardening obsession fed, while much of today was spent dealing with an overgrown burro-tail succulent... and dealing with the mess of the aftermath!

.....Nancy The road to hell is paved....... run trails!

So glad OM's achilles held up and she finished the race.  I will be really eager to read her RR.

Congrats to all the other racers too.  Must be fun to combine a marathon with a big family vacation like that.

2.71 miles with the last 0.71 more of a tempo pace.  Crap I'm slow.

About 46F, no wind and overcast skies.

        Day 9 of current streak.

Rotating my stability shoes into the mix more often seems to have helped my calf and achilles a lot.

"During a marathon, I run about two-thirds of the time. That's plenty." - Margaret Davis, 85 Ed Whitlock regarding his 2:54:48 marathon at age 73, "That was a good day. It was never a struggle."

        aka FlyingFinn

Looks like it was a very good day for the marathoners. Congrats C-R, OM, LMRS, Nono, and SisterRose!

Congrats also to tselbs and Spareribs on yesterday's races.

Dosgato, congratulations on meeting your goals.

Carolyn, great pictures! The Kiras are cutest. You asked about the time thing. I only run by time on my long hilly runs.

This morning MrF and I ran a few hills together...he ran out and backs around me while I trudged along for 4.8 miles.

Congratulations to all the weekend racers---age-group winners, age-group placers, brand new marathoners, embracing the day and fun racers and all!

I ran for 45 minutes today---25 minutes solo and then 20 minutes with Hudson---all at a relaxed pace, mostly sunny day, windy but mild for January at 40 degrees. I am off to CA for work travel and on the road for most of the following work. All fine and sneakers and running gear all packed!

            Wonderful Kira photos!

Garden porn! Snork!  Our lilacs are budding they are so confused right now.

Here is my "race" "report."  Both words are in separate quotes for good reason.  Race is in quotes because I did not really race.

I'm glad you didn't put your finishing time, because I know it would be faster than I could go...Joking

              Mike - love the pics!

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

Oddly enough, that was exactly what I was thinking about on my run today - what kind of potato-starts to send away for to try next year...

Mike, Happy Birthday to Eric!  With so many kids and grandkids, you must have a lot of birthdays to remember. Or do you leave that up to your DW?

Holly, nice wave run.  Speed is all relative - if you can run that well on what's a cold day for you, you'll do better when it's IRC.

We went for another hike in Cahuita National Park today, which is just a mile from where we're staying.  Yesterday we only went to the 1st river crossing, but we weren't dressed for wading so we turned back.  Today we all wore nylon shorts, and waded across and kept hiking.   (Guess they haven't heard of bridges here.)  Anyway, after about 3 miles, DH and DD were tired and hungry and wanted to turn around.  So total about 8 miles hiking today.  In addition to seeing more monkeys and sloths like yesterday, today we saw an iguana, a poison dart frog, and a long green snake. And I have mosquito bites on my mosquito bites.

I stopped to swim in the ocean a couple of times - the trail is right next to the beach the whole way.  DD and DH didn't want to swim.  I feel like DD is the adult and I'm the kid now - she always used to love the water!  But she says she doesn't anymore. Sad  And DH was never a water person.

When we got back to our house, I went for a 5 mile run, which made DD and DH roll their eyes, since we'd been hiking for hours.   But I know you guys understand.  Thanks for getting it!

A hugh congrats to OM, Norm, Nono, and LilMissRocketScientist for well-run marathons!

I hammered down the trail, passing rocks and trees like they were standing still.

Roll eyes  Tell 'em if they're not careful, their eyes will get stuck like that.  At least that's what my mom always told me.  Smile

Holly's thinking about catalogs of porn on her runs?  Does her DH know???? Shocked  Wink

Hang in there Dave59. The pay off is sweeter than any old candy bar. Like Tom said, get a really big book. The pages taste nasty. Especially library books. But I digest.

Holly, I think the moon thingy is mentioned in the Aztec calender. If everything is going to pieces this year, I'm glad it's before the holiday stress really kicks in.

It sounds like Two Cat had fun. Some races I race, some I participate in. 97% of them are very fun.

                      Happy Birthday Eric.

Leslie, your avatar kinda scares me.

Heme, when a seed catalog comes in, I tell DW she has porn.

I'm very envious Wildchild. Tag and I both loved the pictures.

The last few days we've all gotten out. I've spent more time tweaking a resume than social interaction. We've had Honey all weekend. Yesterday, DW, Avenger Doggie, Honey and I went to get  Noah for a run, that turned into a two hour exploration of a cedar swamp. As cold as it is, the bugs are tolerable. With the ground being frozen, we got into areas where we normally can't. This is the time I did not bring a camera. Sad. Noah was scared but he kept on going. There were a few spots that had muck, and sure enough, Noah got stuck and scared. We saw several dinosaurs, a gooey alien and a cement monster. Crud, I'd be scared too. When we got him home, Noah thanked me for saving him from the quicksand.

Before Church today, DW the dogs and I went for a mile and a half loop. Honey is so small and light, we put bells on her so we can keep track and not step on her.

This afternoon, the dogs and I went out for another 40 min or so. Avenger Doggie likes it when I have to keep tabs on Honey. He can sneak off more often. When I get close to catching up to either of the dogs, I say, "I'm gonna get your tail". And then I grab it. It helps with them stopping right in front of us and it quickly becomes a game. We were on a narrow path along a steep hill. Tag was well ahead then Honey. Then me. Honey started dogging it. When I told her I was gonna get her tail, she bolted! All ears and elbows. She goes to push past Tag and knocked herself down the hill. Finally, they're out of gas and behaving.

Congrats to all the Disney participants and all of our other racers. Glad that CR got to meet OM and MrOM and had a beer for the rest of us.

4 miles this morning, then 30 minutes of laps and pool running. Did I mention that the weather here has been unbelievable?

Some surprising ends to the playoff games today....

Good morning friends. Just a quick update on my marathon since I'm typing on my phone (room wireless hasn't worked the whole week). Finished the Disney Marathon yesterday in 4:42:03, a full 20 minutes slower than I had planned for. I was on pace for the first 7 miles, but then got hit with tummy issues that forced me to make two extended potty stops along the way... oh well, as they say, sh*t happens... but in spite of all my unforeseen issues, I kept running, maintained my positivity and finished with a smile. Smile Got to meet Nono and C-R which was very cool. Will write a full RR (promise!) On the flight home tomorrow night.
