serious thing here...be aware that there was a guy in a red car this morning asking 5 graders if they wanted candy in berwick. you guys with children better have a talk with yours. i'm sure you'll hear of this soon.
Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff,
We are writing to make you aware of an issue that occurred in Berwick this morning. At approximately 8:10 AM a newer red Hyundai four-door vehicle with unknown plates (possibly temporary tags) approached two lone fifth grade female students at different locations in Berwick: one at a bus stop on Cedar Lane and the other student in the Knowlton School bus loop. The man spoke to the students and offered them candy. Both students responded “no” and the man drove off. Both children immediately reported the information to an adult and did a great job. Knowlton school duty staff provided important information to local police.
The suspect is described as a white male, slim build, clean shaven, and was wearing a black tee shirt or jacket and dark pants. The seat belt restraint is described as having a fuzzy gray protector over it.
Once the school was made aware of these events, Knowlton School staff immediately contacted the Berwick Police Department. Officer Fogg of the Berwick Police Department talked with both students, and Captain Locke and Officer Fogg are working closely with school staff.
MSAD 60 staffs are aware of the incident this morning and watchful in the event there are any similar reports. If your child relays any such information to you, it would be important to notify the school and authorities. Contact numbers are as follows:

This would be a prudent time to remind children of safety rules, especially those related to not talking to or going with strangers, and reporting to an adult if at any time they are approached by a stranger. Both children did an outstanding job reporting this information to school staff and Officer Fogg.
All district staff, including the bus drivers, have been notified of these events and will continue to be vigilant.
